Less than 5 hours to go before we leave
Angela's mum and dads and chaos is starting to reign! This week has
disappeared in a poof of smoke!
We left our house on Saturday morning and
shortly afterwards our tenant, Stuart, moved in. You really cannot
imagine how much stuff there is to pack until you have to store it for a
year! The house seemed very strange empty, but even driving away from the
house it still didn't seem like we were going away for a year.
Stuart, sorry we forgot to change the bathroom
light bulb and also we left a bottle of Monkey Gland Sauce in the fridge!
It was meant to come to Southampton with us for Angela's dad! (It's not
really made out of monkeys’ glands by the way!)
We took our niece and nephew to Marwell Zoo on
Monday and had a fantastic time, but all it did was reinforce the decision
that we do not want our own kids! They are way too much like hard work!
Doesn't Red Bull & vodka, Coca-Cola, Fanta, chicken nuggets and fizzy cola
bottles, for breakfast, make kids go crazy! If you look hard enough you
can find chicken nuggets with 23 different e-numbers in! I am joking by
the way! I could only find chicken nuggets with 17 e-numbers in!
Seriously though, they only had fruit, vegetables and water all day! Well
maybe somewhere in the middle of the two!
One of our friends called us this week to ask
about our decision to go travelling and the reasons behind it, but he was
looking at his own future. All I can say mate is that we have absolutely
no regrets about our decision. It is definitely the right thing to do and
whatever happens from today forward we will never have to wonder what if?
On the Wednesday night, 31 August 2005, we had
our work leaving do at Bricket Wood. The number of people who attended
was great, but then I do think most of them turned up just to make sure we
really were leaving! A particular thanks to those who drove a long way to
make it. One of the conditions of the party was that I had to supply a
couple of bottles of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Gold, a rum that is distilled
especially for South Africa. It disappeared particularly quickly I
noticed, although I did manage to get one tot of it!
There are two groups of people for us both to
say a very special thank you to. Firstly Ian, Jackie, Teresa, Graham,
Nikki, Tony, Neil and Steve for partying right to the end, also Graham for
driving us to Heathrow Airport after lunch on the Thursday! Secondly to
everyone who contributed to our fantastic leaving present, which was a
hiking trip on the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand, but specifically to
Helen and Karen for organising it. Also I must say a personal thanks to
Bill for getting a hero of mine, the legend that is Martin Johnson, to
sign a copy of his autobiography wishing us luck for our “World Trip!”
Stay in touch guys!
We're off! |
