Where have the last 35 weeks gone?
45 weeks ago we
sat down with our boss and told him what our plans were! It seemed so far
away when we first decided to go.
We've been
through almost every emotion you can imagine since we made the decision:
-
What are we
giving up to go and do this?
-
What will we
come back to?
-
What if we're
making a mistake?
-
Will we still
have the same standard of living when we come back?
Obviously, they
are just the negative thoughts. What has amazed us is other peoples'
reactions!
Not one member of
our family, or any of our friends and work colleagues have said that it's
a stupid thing to do. Most are extremely envious that we are doing it, a
few have admitted they are not brave enough to do it, but most just wish
they had done it before this happened or that changed! Kids being the
biggest reason!
However, if you
really wanted to do something like this could you not educate your
children whilst travelling? Straight from the lips of a man without
children, eh! But wouldn't they get a much broader education, seeing the
world and experiencing different cultures?
Yes I know, it is
easier said than done! Like I said, we're “dinks!” No, not “dinkys” as
there is no yet! Also, the dual income is disappearing, in fact all the
income is going!
Anyway, we are
starting to realise there is loads to organise! We still need to try and
work out what to take with us, what type and size of backpack to buy, and
that's just for my camera equipment and Angela's toiletries! Then there's
all the household stuff to organise for the year!
Still, what a
year we are going to have, whatever happens in the future, we will always
have this time!
Hey, my best
mate, Gav, is getting married to a great lady, also called Angie, on 16
September 2006 and wants me to be his best man! Fool! Still, it does
mean we have to be back for that weekend, even if it ends up being just a
flying visit! We may well come back for that weekend and then straight
back to wherever we were if we are not ready to come home? However, that
might be more difficult to do than it sounds? Once we get back to the UK,
it may be hard to just fly off again? We'll see! |
