VICTORIA FALLS
We stayed at The Sprayview Hotel. Here we met a great guy,
the hotel barman, a black Zimbabwean called Chinx Ndlovu and his beautiful wife,
Sylvia, who very sadly died in the October after we met. We will always fondly
remember Sylvia for in that one night we met her she gave us so much fun and
happiness and taught us so much about the pride, passion and true friendship
that Africa and its people have to offer. We still stay in touch with Chinx by
letter and he frequently writes back, we look forward to seeing Chinx again in
the future and again sharing a great evening in his company.
The Sprayview Hotel itself is very nice and ideally
located to tour the area.
CHOBE
GAME RESERVE, BOTSWANA
This was Angela's first game drive and what a way to
start! We saw some great Elephants and got really close up to one of the most
gorgeous Lionesses we have ever seen.
ELEPHANT-BACK SAFARI
This was a great experience and
although we didn't see much I would recommend it to anyone who is staying in Vic
Falls.
SUNSET
CRUISE ON THE ZAMBEZI
What better way to see the Zambezi than on a sunset cruise
with the Hippos popping up all around us!
THE
BOMA RESTAURANT, VICTORIA FALLS
This was one of the most memorable nights of our lives -
firstly I had just proposed to Angela in a helicopter over Victoria Falls, then
we had the company of Chinx and Sylvia and finally a fantastic restaurant
offering the most fantastic local meats cooked freshly in on the braai with
traditional African dancing and singing for entertainment. We even tried Mopani
Worms which are basically like fat Caterpillars!
MICROLIGHT FLIGHT OVER VICTORIA FALLS
A great way to see the Falls - again I would recommend it
to anyone who gets the opportunity. There is no better way to see the Falls - it
is even better than by Helicopter.
CASCADES HOTEL, SUN
CITY
Although very much the commercial side of South Africa it
was great fun. We stayed at The Cascades Hotel which is the next one down from
The Palace, which IS as expensive as it sounds! A great place to spend time
chilling out.
PILANESBURG GAME RESERVE
Angela's second game drive and we saw Lion, Leopard,
Elephant and White & Black Rhino! What a game drive!
BOAT
CRUISE ON ST. LUCIA ESTUARY
This is a must do! Seeing the St. Lucia Estuary by boat is
beautiful and the wildlife, birds and eco-system is remarkable.
CANOEING AROUND ST. LUCIA
This was also great fun - twin canoes across the Estuary -
stopping to have lunch on the riverbank, going for a bush walk and then canoeing
back to the start point. Not as hard work as it sounds - a very relaxing and
enjoyable day.
CHEETAH
FEEDING AT EMDONENI LODGE
A good opportunity to get up close to Cheetahs and Serval
Cats. The accommodation was very nice, as was the food.
HLUHLUWE/iMFOLOZI GAME RESERVE
We were driven round Hluhluwe/iMfolozi by Dean and had a
great few days here - we saw loads and really wanted to come back here, which we
did in 2003.
THULA
THULA GAME RESERVE
All we have to say about Thula Thula is we got married
here in 2002 which tells you how much we loved it!
SHAKALAND
Another must go to, to experience a true Zulu cultural
experience - the traditions, singing and dancing will leave you with
goose-bumps! I have been here twice now and will still go back again, just for
the Zulu singing and dancing.
IPHIVA
DAM FLOATING CHALET
This was a great experience - a floating chalet on The
Iphiva Dam - you get a skiff to tootle round on - but beware don't ram the pier
with it! You will fall off (nearly eh Dean!) The skiff lets you travel around
the Dam and there are some great little rivers to go down and explore.
SANI
PASS, DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAINS
I know I've said it before, but you have to go up Sani
Pass and have a beer at the Highest Pub in Africa! Oh yeah the view is pretty
spectacular as well! You will leave South Africa on this journey and go to a
country called Lesotho, which is right in the middle of SA.
SHAMWARI GAME RESERVE
We loved Shamwari Game reserve, which also houses one of
the Born Free Foundation projects. We will definitely go here again when we
travel down The Garden Route.
BELVIDERE MANOR
This was a beautiful place to stay in Knysna. Belvidere
Manor is in the middle of a bird sanctuary and the Knysna Lagoon is well worth a
visit. The accommodation is fantastic and the food was excellent.
CANGO
CAVES & CANGO OSTRICH FARM
Well worth a visit to both places one your travels down
The Garden Route.
THE
WAGON SHED, DENEHOF GUESTHOUSE
This was a very unique place to stay, but to us it was a
one horse town with more tumbleweed than anything else. That said, the
restaurant that we went to the evening we stayed was terrific!
CAPE
PENINSULA TOUR
A gentleman called Eric took us on a tour of the Cape
Peninsula and it was an extremely informative and fun day. We visited Cape Point
and many other interesting places around the Cape. Seeing Penguins on the beach
in the sun at Simonstown was hilarious!
TABLE
MOUNTAIN
Go watch the Sunset from Table Mountain - it's very
special!
