Our plane landed
at 6:12am on Saturday 2 September 2006, exactly one year after we left
Heathrow to fly to Peru! We were expecting to have to queue for hours
getting through customs and immigration, given the problems they had been
experiencing over the last couple of months. However, by 6:45am we were
in the taxi and on our way back to Southampton. We have now been back a
week and everything is already strangely normal! I know we have both
changed and have experienced things that many people will only ever dream
about, but now life carries on. We have already booked our next two
holidays and have a plan for the next year, but that is it.
This week Steve
Irwin died after being spiked by a Stingray, although at least he died
doing what he loved! He will be very sadly missed by many people in the
world, but the awareness he created about wildlife and conservation and
the work he did will be remembered for a long time.
On Friday 8
September 2006 we went home for the first time in 380 days. After renting
our house out for the year it was a bit nerve-wracking opening the front
door! However everything was fine and by the Sunday morning, although we
are redecorating the lounge, everywhere else was almost back to the way it
was before we left! We have two great neighbours, Maggie and Paul, who
have been fantastic in helping us over the year and we really appreciate
it. We must also thank both sets of our parents for sorting out our post,
the letting agency and various other incompetent companies on our behalf,
over the year!
We have had an
amazing journey and we hope you have enjoyed sharing it with us, reading
the diary entries and looking at the pictures.
Love and best
wishes,
