Before moving onto another country we decided that we
needed a break from travelling! After all, it's hard work! No, really,
it is! We opted for a beach resort of all places, which is kind of
strange as neither of us are into laying around in the sun! The idea
being that if there was nothing to do then we simply would be able to do
nothing apart from relax and sleep!
Koh Chang is a beautiful island off the eastern part of
Thailand, not as touristic as places like Phuket and Koh Samui yet, but it
won't be long until it is! The advantage this island has is that it is
very hilly and covered in dense jungle, so the Thai people will only be
able to build around the edges of the island.
We stayed at a resort called the Panviman and we can
thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is into chilling out on a beach or
at a great hotel next to the beach.
For five days we simply chilled out and watched the
sunsets. Although we did hire a fishing boat to go night fishing on our
last night! We managed to catch quite a few fish, although Angela
mastered the art of catching fish by the tail (twice) or belly (three
times) rather than the traditional way of using bait! The biggest fish we
hooked, not landed, was a Barracuda! We were told it had to be a
Barracuda because of the way my rod bent in half and then the fish just
disappeared! When we reeled in the line that was all that was left, line,
the Barracuda had simply sliced straight through the line with its teeth!
We discovered a couple of very cheap, but very nice
bars, just an ocean's walk along the beach, literally! Although we walked
to them before sunset along the beach, after the sun sets and the tide
comes in you have no choice but to walk back to them the way you came, but
up to your knees in ocean! The "Barracuda" Bar was great, but the toilets
were the worst I had seen since we set off and I didn't have any shoes
with me! Nice! The "Tiger" Bar was nice but we never discovered what
the food was like as both evenings we tried to eat there he didn't have
what we wanted!
We did venture out to a fishing village one night
called Bang Bao where we had the best Thai food we had tasted all month,
also the hottest! The Hot & Sour Squid was exactly as listed, the Jungle
Curry was as hot as the jungle in the midday sun and the Lemon-Chilli
Fish was so hot we went the colour of both lemons and Chillies
all at the same time, but it all tasted fantastic. We think it was our
own fault though, as we ordered some deep-fried Cashew nuts, a speciality
in Thailand, and we asked for them to be fried with a little bit of
Chilli and served with Lime, how the northern Thai
people eat them! I think the Chef thought therefore that we liked our
food the Thai way! Doh!
All in all a great break from our travelling! |
